ANIME WEEKEND FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

When is the Lakewood Public Library Anime Weekend?
The Anime Weekend will be on Friday November 12th, Saturday November 13th and Sunday November 14th 2004.

What time does the event start?
We begin Friday and Sunday at 4pm, although the downstairs hallways will be open to attendees around 3pm. Saturday, the hallway opens at 9:30am and the films start at 10am. All nights end at 8:30pm.

Is there an admission charge?
No, the Anime Weekend is free and open to anyone. Although you can help the library continue these programs by supporting the friends of the lakewood public library. (How about buying a nifty library totebag?). Or by contacting Mike Beargie to make a donation to Anime Weekend at (216) 226-8275 x.127.

Is the Event child friendly?
Yes (and no), we will have films appropriate of the G/PG age rating system, but there will be titles that will be shown with a PG-13 and R rating. We encourage parents to keep tabs on what their children watch at the event, as the Library staff and volunteers of the event can not supervise everyone. We will list the titles/ratings/synopses of all of our screenings on the website and in our program guidebook.

Can I win a prize?
Unlike the Anime Festival, there are no prizes to be won. You will however receive a check-in bag with our program guide and maybe a few promo materials from anime companies across the US.

What all is there to do?
We will have three video screens showing the latest and greatest anime films, OVA and shorts. No special events are scheduled at this time due to the lack of space and room availability in the Library's lower level (500 people was hard to manage at the festival!). With over 40 hours of video programming, we're certain that there will be something for everyone during the weekend.

Is there an attendance cap?
The lower level at the Library can only host about 350 people at any given time, while we will try to accomodate everyone that attends the event, but we must comply with local fire codes and the comfort of everyone. For the last Anime Festival, 500 people attended, and with this being a two day event, we are expecting even more.

Can I Cosplay?
Yes, you can come in costume to our event, but there is no costume contest and it may not be a great idea to with the potential chilly and wintry mix of weather common to Lakewood in the November time of year.

Where do I park?
You can park automobiles on any street meter space for free on Saturdays and Sundays(free after 6pm on Fridays) in Lakewood. There is also limited parking available in the Library parking lot on the south side of the building. Ample parking in the public parking lot behind drug mart, on the north side of the street, is also available.

Can I use public transportation to get to/from the Event?
Anyone familiar with the RTA buslines can easily get to and from the Lakewood Public Library. Located on Detroit in the heart of Lakewood, Lakewood residents can take the community circulator (RTA #804) that runs along Detroit Avenue and Madison Avenue and stops right in front of the Library. Also, the RTA 326 Bus, that runs along Detroit Road all the way into downtown Cleveland and out to Westlake stops in front of the Library. From the south, you can take the 86 busline north to Detroit Avenue and then walk three blocks west to the Library.

What about Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner?
There are over 25 food vending establishments within a comfortable walking distance of the Library, a food map and listing of restaurants will be provided with your attendee materials. Some local namebrands are: Taco Bell, Burger King, Chipotle, IHOP, Einstein Bros., and Mr. Hero.

I'm driving/commuting in from out of town, are there places to stay overnight?
There are many hotels out around the Cleveland Hopkind Airport (CLE) Area, which is about five miles southwest of Lakewood. There is also a Days Inn located in Lakewood (around Clifton and W.117th) about a mile from the Library. Please ask one of our Library staff members to assist you with directions to a nearby hotel.
