3/10/06 - New Layout! + Start of Manga Circle!
We certainly hope everyone likes our new layout! We decided with spring coming, to freshen things up a bit! In the coming week, all the pages will be set to match the title page.

This Sunday, at 4 p.m. is the start of Manga Circle! Manga fans, and newbies alike are welcome to attend this informative drawing class. Manga Circle will take place in the Main Library Auditorium. Hope to see you there!

2/10/06 - Manga Club Info

The Lakewood Public Library will be holding a brand-new How to Draw Manga club here this upcoming season! Peter Wong and co. will take you through different techniques, stories and styles in a brand new club sponsered by DELETER of Japan

We'll have a page with information up soon, including dates, times, and general info to get us going, in will be a fun season for all Anime fans alike.

1/11/06 - Suncoast Anime Festival
Just a quick heads up - Suncoast at Great Northern Mall in North Olmstead, will be hosting an Anime Night at their store. The Event is scheduled to take place between the hours of 5-8 P.M. Thursday night, the 12th. You can arrive in cosplay, and the cosplay juding will occur at 6 P.M. Lakewood Library Anime will be there for photo-taking as well as a report! Hope to see you guys there

1/4/06 - Happy New Year!
Anime @ Lakewood Pulic library would like to thank everyone that made 2005 a successful year for our club. We hope to grow with every future meeting, and with your input, hope to make 06 a year to remember!

This Sunday is the Ohayocon in Columbus, so I won't be able to attend our club meeting this weekend. You can find information for the convention at http://www.ohayocon.com - You can also check the events, cosplay, and maybe catch a glimpse of me on Fansview!

10/21/2005 - Club Anime - Halloween Meeting Update - Cosplay!
Okay, lots to talk about since our last update. Last meeting, there was unfortunately a mixup with the Slayers DVD and we're one volume ahead now. To make up for that, we'll have a surprise to show for the 10/30 meeting in it's place. Trust us, you'll love it. ^_^

We'll also be closing up the Legend of Himiko on 10/30. For this meeting we're inviting all club members to show up in costume, in celebration of halloween. In case you're wondering what cosplay is, visit our Intro to Anime Cosplay page.

Lastly, for the December 11th meeting, in honor to the holidays, we'll be hosting a fun program for all our members to participate in, and test their anime music knowledge. Anime Name that Tune is coming December 11th! I'm sure we'll have some prizes/candy to pass out, so make sure to practice!

09/17/2005 - Club Anime - Fall Season!
Hello Anime fans and Otaku alike! Club Anime is back in full blast for another season here at the LPL. Thanks to your feedback, and what you, the public wanted to see, we're here again with three outstanding, series for everyone.

This season we'll be showing The Slayers, The Legend of Himiko, and DNA^2 (squared)

07/13/2005 - Convention News and Club Update
Just a quick update before I depart for Ikasucon. We've selected new titles for our Fall Program. We'll list everything on here once we have the details finalized = )

If you can't make it to Ikasucon this weekend, you can follow the action through Kevin Lillard's "A Fan's View" There are usually updates every night of pictures and events that happened that day. Enjoy, and see everyone soon!

07/02/2005 - Convention News and Club Update
Ikasucon, a second-year convention will be taking place in Blue Ash, Ohio on the weekend of July 15-17. I attended this convention last year and had a wonderful time. I'll be there again this year, so I hope to see some of your faces there!

For the club, we'll be moving on to volume 3 of both Full Metal Panic and Vandread. We certainly hope you're enjoying these series. In addition, we'll be showing our first Volume of Full Metal Alchemist as well.

06/03/2005 - Club Announcements
This Sunday, we begin our new schedule of great programming. Full Metal Panic, Full Metal Alchemist, and Vandread fill in our schedule this time around. Make sure to check out our Club Anime page for more information on the series, such as brief descriptions and Age Ratings.We hope you'll enjoy!

05/20/2005 - No Club Meeting on Sunday and FMA
Just a kind reminder to everyone, that we will not be having a meeting this Sunday, the 29th as the library will be closed for Memorial Day. We'll return next Sunday, the 5th, with plenty of new content. Through Funimation's Operation Anime, we've received volume one of Full Metal Alchemist and will show the first two episodes next Sunday. Extra thanks goes to Funimation for their program

05/20/2005 - New Titles
Now that we've finished Azumanga, We'll be moving on to a fun new visually appealing series in Vandread by Pioneer. We'll have a couple surprises for you guys this weekend at Club Anime. The Club page itself will be updated this upcoming Wednesday with more information on Vandread and any other new titles we are able to show. See you at the club! ^_^

05/05/2005 - Schedule Update
This upcoming Sunday, the 8th, and for the 15th, our schedule has been updated on our club page. We hope you're enjoying Azumanga as much as we have. We're cureently working on acquring the rights to show more series like this for when we complete Azumanga.. If you have a particular series or OVA you'd like to see, let us know, and we'll do our best to pick it up.

04/02/2005 - Harucon and Goodbye
Today is the last day for staff member Mike Beargie. Mike is moving to Columbus and will not be able to continue working at the library, however, Justin Adkins will now be in charge of all the anime programming at the library. Hopefully we'll continue posting a few of Mike's exclusive articles, and see him around if he visits for future anime events.

Lorain Community College Anime Society is hosting Harucon, a one day anime mini-con, on Sunday the 24th of April. Please show them your support for this good and FREE convention. (PS- catch Mike DJ'ing in the evening at the con!)

03/28/2005 - Anime in Northwest Ohio
The BGSU anime organization is inviting everyone to come and participate in Animarathon. This one day event, which runs from 11:00am to Midnight on Saturday, April 2nd is free for everyone. There will be various events such as cosplay, DDR, a raffle, dealers room and 4 screening rooms. Please show your support for anime and attend this great event! 03/14/2005 - Drawing Contest!
Details on the Spring Drawing Contest are available on the club page, we've got a great prize for the winner! Thanks to the over 25 people that made our first spring club meeting a success! We hope to see even more people at our future meetings!

03/06/2005 - Updates.

Just a reminder that there will be no meeting tonight (the 6th) but our new spring lineup will start next Sunday (the 13th)! Details on the spring drawing contest will be given out, and we will start watching all of our scheduled series.

02/21/2005 - Updates.
The club page has been updated with the titles and first few showings for the spring schedule. Thanks go out to Funimation and ADV Films for providing us with the titles to show. Be sure to check out Mike's program, "Trendy Anime" at the CPL South Branch tomorrow.

01/29/2005 - Anime Treatise!
The first Anime Treatise article, written by staffer Mike Beargie is now available for your reading enjoyment. The topic for January is "The Golden Age of Anime". February's article will be "Harajuku, where anime collides with reality".

The Library will be starting a mailing list for our anime programming. This way, we can keep in touch with you updating about all of our events, appearances and updates as soon as they are available. We hope that you will take advantage of this when it becomes available.

01/05/2005 - Happy New Year
Congratulations go out to club member David Goerz, who won the mascot drawing contest. We will be posting Davids drawings soon.
Welcome goes out to the Strongsville Library, Clyde Library and Cleveland Public Library for their interest in promoting anime as well.
Our club has an advertisement in the back of the program guidebook for Ohayocon! Any of you going to Ohayocon please make sure to tell your friends to come to our club meetings! If any of you are discovering this website from the convention, we invite you to look around, come to our meetings and ask us any questions you have!

Mike Beargie will be posting his first installment of the series of articles "Anime Treatise" after he returns from Ohayocon this weekend.

Come and join us as Anime expert Mike Beargie discusses the progression of the Anime trend throughout the United States. From the latest Anime shows, to the games, toys and food that have become common to us; Mike will answer questions, and maybe teach you some things to help you out with your beloved hobby! An interactive prize trivia will conclude the session. -All ages, free and open to the public.

11/27/2004 - Wrap-up and looking forward!

Thanks to the many people that attended and enjoyed the anime weekend! While it is unclear how many individual people attended, the counts of people watching from each of our feature films adds up to 689. We'd like to once again thank our sponsors, and the friends of the LPL for making this event possible. For those of you that missed it, you missed a screening of the escaflowne movie, the premiere of Animation Runner Kuromi 2, and a few other specials as well!

Looking ahead, Club Anime@LPL is starting in a few short weeks on Sunday, December 12th. We have some GREAT prizes to give away as part of our drawing contest for the club, so get those pencils working! We have finalized the titles we are going to show at the club: Dual! Parallel trouble adventure, Carried by the wind: Tsukikage Ran, and Haunted Junction. These titles can be enjoyed by everyone, and short writeups about them are available on the Club Anime page.

Also of note, Mike Beargie will be writing a monthly column to appear on this page starting in January. Titled "Anime Treatise", these monthly installments will focus on individual subgenres of the popular Japanese Animation world. To suggest topics, please send an email to lpl@lkwdpl.org with "Anime Treatise Suggestion" in the subject line. January's topic will be "The Golden Age of Anime". Mike has already written much for this website, including the "Anime for Families", "a Brief History of Anime / Intro to Anime" and the "Intro to Anime Conventions". We hope you will enjoy all of these articles!

11/10/2004 - Final Updates
Only two days before the Anime Weekend starts! Our program guides arrived and look great! Thanks again to Adkins Printing of Lakewood for their donation.

A few errata from the schedule and program guide: Spirit of Wonder will not be shown, and will be replaced with a film announced at the event.
"Arion" was mismarked as youth programming, we have reclassified it as teen programming.

As a note, the first 500 people will receive a full metal alchemist postcard and mini-poster! The first 100 will also receive a tokyopop sticker!

11/02/2004 - Something aside from elections!

With the Anime Weekend less than two weeks away, we have come up with a final list of films (some have been added, some have been dropped) and a now available schedule of films. We have updated the FAQ page for the event as well. We encourage everyone to come and to bring a friend as well, throughout the weekend we hope to get over 1,000 people!

Also, we'll be showing "Dual, Parallel Trouble Adventure", "His and Her Circumstances", and "Crest of the Stars" as the first three titles for our bi-weekly Anime club. Hope to see you all there!

10/20/2004 - More Progress
A huge thanks goes out to Adkins printing of Lakewood, who has agreed to donate the printing of our program guide for the Anime Weekend.

The listing of films has been updated with our tentative final list, there will be a schedule posted within the next week or so.

One minor page update saved time on loading the nice pictures in the top left corner.

We are also looking for suggestions of series to show at our Anime Club starting in December, please send any of your suggestions to lpl@lkwdpl.org

We have updated our Anime Weekend page with even more titles of films that we will be showing. There are over 10 titles that we still have to confirm, but the list is getting big!

9/25/2004 - More Anime Weekend Films and updated FAQ

The frequently asked questions page about the Anime Weekend has been updated, click the tab for "FAQ" on the Anime Weekend page for more details. Also, click the "Films, Ratings, Synopses" tab for current information on the titles that we are going to be showing.

9/19/2004 - Anime Page V.3
Mike has created an updated PHP based backend to the page which provides a cleaner design, faster page loads, and some new options (such as print buttons and active polls). We'll be making a few more changes throughout the next week, but we hope you enjoy the updated design.

9/18/2004 - First Films, Flyer & Fun!
First off, starting tomorrow the Otaku Collective will be meeting every other Sunday in the Main Library's Meeting Room. They will be talking about and showing Anime starting at 4pm. Come December, the OC will also be helping out with "Club Anime@LPL", which will continue the bi-weekly meetings with library sponsored videos, activities and special events. If we have a good turnout, there is also a possibility that we could turn this into a weekly club! Please come out and show your support!

08/24/2004 - Sugoi!
A wonderful update for the Anime Weekend! We will now be showing even MORE films on a third video screen, and on an extra day, Sunday the 14th! This will add over 25 hours of video programming to our event than originally planned! We have also posted the FAQ for the Anime Weekend.

07/17/2004 - Changes and the like.
We've updated our page design to version 2.2, designed to make it easier to read the content in the lower frames. A new article written by staff member Mike Beargie is now available, check out: Anime Guide for Families! Also, join Mike at the Avon Lake Public Library on Saturday, July 24th, as he presents Anime matinee. Our Memories of the Anime Festival page is also updated with pictures! 07/01/2004 - Announcing Anime Weekend @ LPL!
While we are still sorting through pictures, video and statistics from the Anime Festival, we are proud to announce a new event for November! Anime Weekend A LPL will take place on Friday, November 12th, from 4-8:30pm, and Saturday, November 13th, from 10-8:30pm. The Anime Weekend will feature two full theatre rooms showing the best current and classical Anime films, ova, shorts and features! Please email us if you have any suggestions for titles you want to be shown.


06/23/2004 - The thanks and the updates to come!
Thanks to the (around) 500 people that showed up and made the Anime festival a HUGE success! Now that Mike is back from vacation, there will be a lot of updates to the page. First off, a wrap-up page with pictures and details on winners from the Anime festival will be posted, including winners of the drawing and cosplay contests, and the AMV contest winners. We will also be updating with a few new fanart pieces that we received.

Join Mike B. this Saturday (June 26th) at the Avon Lake Public Library for "Anime Matinee"! Download the PDF flyer here. Mike will be showing the movie "One Piece 2 - Adventure of Clockwork Isle", and there will be a discussion of the film as well as a prize drawing afterwards. Mike will also be hosting Anime Matinee at the Avon Lake Library in July and August.

06/10/2004
We have writeups in the local news media! Look for articles introducing the Anime festival in the Cleveland Plain Dealer Friday Section, The Sun News (Sun Post in Lakewood), Westlife and Scene Magazine!

The weather forecast for the festival is: Mid 70's, partly cloudy with only a 10% chance of rain! Should be nice!

We have also confirmed that we will be showing additional programming starting between 11 and 1. These titles will include the one piece TV special, Kogepan and Slayers Premium, check our updated SCHEDULE for more information!

Just another day to wait, hope to see you all there!

06/05/2004 - One Week!
The Library opens at 9am. The Lower Level hallway will be open to attendees at 11:00am. The Festival officially starts at 1pm, but we may have a few filler things to keep everyone occupied. Make sure to stop by the hallway table to pick up your free attendee materials, raffle ticket, ballots and cosplay registration forms!

05/26/2004 - Updates

Changes were made to the Rules Page for the Festival.
Changes were made to the Schedule, and our guesses at ratings and links to 3rd party reviews are now available.
Also, local food establishments Quiznos and Sakura Hibachi and Sushi will have discounts for Anime Festival Attendees!

We are proud to announce that we will be the first to have on display and available for play, the Azumanga Daioh Battle He-Cho! Racing Game in our game room! Details (in Japanese) and screenshots can be found here.

05/17/2004 - Minor Changes
Due to constricitons based on other library programs and events, we will not be able to use the quiet room, this means no yugioh card tournament or lecture sessions, but we still have over 20 hours of programming compacted into four other rooms! All of these rooms are convienently located on the lower level of the library! Make sure to check out our FAQ for any questions, and make sure to email us at lpl@lkwdpl.org with any questions!

04/14/2004 - Errata and Updates
Updated the Festival Pages, including the FAQ page and AMV contest. A tentative schedule of the festival will be available on May 1st.

We were in error when we said the Animarathon (posted below) was last weekend, it is this weekend, on the 17th.

04/06/2004 - FAQ's and Answers Regarding the Anime Festival
We have added A FAQ Page that answers the most commonly asked questions about the Anime Festival.

Of note is that this weekend is the Animarathon at BGSU campus, their page is here, it's another festival that's free for anyone to enjoy, so if you have nothing better to do, why not give it a look?

03/29/2004 - Announcing the AMV Contest for the Anime Festival

We will be having an Anime Music Video Contest at our Anime Festival on Saturday June 12th. Details for entering the contest are available at this page. Don't know what an Anime Music Video is? Check out our conventions page, we have a small listing about AMV contests there.

In other news for the Anime Festival, we have confirmed a third room that will be used as a game room! We will have plenty of games to try out, and plenty of tournaments for you to win great prizes! We'll be announcing all of the details for the festival, including: schedules, directions, area guides, tournament rules, game show information and general guidelines throughout the month of April, so stay tuned and start making plans!

Updated the page to a frames based system, to save time and such and to conserve page space. I hope you all like the newer look.

03/17/2004 - Page Updates and Anime Festival Updates
We are back from Tekkoshocon, and had a great time. Hopefully you've had a chance to pick up one of our flyers, but if not, you can now get a copy of our flyer here. Updates to the Anime Page include updated versions of the Anime Titles at the Library Pages, Creation of the Fan Pages section, as well as updated versions of our Conventions and Anime Festival Pages. Mostly all of our other pages were tweaked as well with updates.

For an update on the Anime Festival, we have acquired additional space and will have a second video room, as well as a possible third room with more activities planned. We are working on a comprehensive map of food around the area for our program guide. We'd like to thank everyone that has volunteered to help us out, and we're hoping for a great turnout.

03/06/2004 - Anime Festival Updates
We will be distributing flyers for the festival at next weekend's Tekkoshocon so pick one up if you're there! We would like to thank the following companies whom have already agreed to help us with video source, donations, general help, prizes and promotional materials for the festival: Anime Palace, Anime Pavilion, Bandai Entertainment, Pioneer Entertainment, YesAsia.com, Central Park Media, Funimation, LC3 Anime Club, KSU Anime Club, CWRU Anime Society, AnimeNewsNetwork.com, Fansview.com, Media Blasters, we are still waiting to hear back from a few more companies before we announce the titles that we are going to show, but we have a lot in store for you!

02/19/2004 - Page Updates
Updates to our Conventions Page and Links Page took place. We also started receiving a few questions about the festival and added our address and phone number to the front page, keep that interest coming! Also of note is that two events are happening next month in March: Tekkoshocon, an Anime convention in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and CCC, an event with Anime programming in Independance Ohio.

As you may have noticed on your way in here, we will be hosting an Anime festival here at Lakewood Public Library! On Saturday June 12th, we will have use of the Main Library Auditorium from 1-8:45. We'll be showing movies, Anime music videos, omake shorts, having door prizes, and much more, so be sure to keep your calendar clean! This will be a free and family oriented event, feel free to bring anyone! Please send in any suggestions that you may have, as well as your fanart for our fanart page, to lpl@lkwdpl.org and stay tuned for more details!

A few more updates to our pages, the "Anime Conventions" page has been updated. Our first piece of fanart has been submitted by LPL staff member Mike Beargie, check out the "fanart from you" page, and don't forget to send in fanart of your own!

Another update, this time we have added more links to our "Links" page. Look for new additions of clubs for Anime in Ohio, as well as a few other additions. Also changed was the "Anime Drawing Class Page", which had some broken links removed, and some corrections made to the text.

The new "Anime Titles at the Library" page is now up to date, we are still adding titles and fixing links as we go along, but most of our DVD and Video titles are linked to the catalog so you can place items on hold with your card number and pin number, (The pin number is available from the front desk).

We have updated and refreshed all of our pages, and have added an archived version of the "how to draw Anime" class page to the links in the sidebar. We will soon have our "Anime titles at the library" page working (the new catalog is here).

In other news, Lakewood Library staff member Mike Beargie will be giving a "how to draw Anime" workshop at Avon Lake Public Library on October 25th 2003, information for that workshop is available here

We have updated the "Links" page of the site with some updated and fresh links, also updated the "Businesses" site. Our staff would also like to remind all fan artists to e-mail artwork to us so we can post it on the site. The new library catalog will be in place soon, so check back early August for an updated "Anime Titles at the Library Page"

The Lakewood Public Library has just received a significant donation of about 125 Anime VHS tapes from Neil Laird. We would like to thank Neil for his contribution, and encourage anyone that would like to donate any more videos to our Anime collection to please e-mail us. The Lakewood Public Library continues it's goal of providing the largest public access Anime video rental system in the State of Ohio, with more than 400 individual titles!
