The Barton Community Center is a non-profit, senior activity center for people age 55 and over. It is located on the ground floor of the Westerly Apartments at 14300 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood, OH. The center was the first of its kind when it opened in 1964 and continues to be a model for many other centers.

Members come to the Barton Community Center from all over the Greater Cleveland area to meet new friends, enjoy socials, luncheons, parties, special events, and take advantage of the classes, programs, or visit our gift and resale shops.

Programs include something for everyone: movies, bingo, social luncheons and dinners, card parties, computers, health services, musicals, socials, classes, workshops, special events, golf, exercise and book reviews.

Barton Community Center also provides many volunteer opportunities to its members to use their talents and skills, or to find new ones! Many members discover their creative outlet at Barton Center!

Many special events are held during evening hours or on weekends. Check the current activity listing in our monthly newsletter, The Breeze.

Visitors are always welcome at Barton Center. You may attend class or activity as a guest before joining. Call for a personal tour of our facility at (216) 221-3400.

  • Three classrooms, including exercise bicycles.
  • Hodge Podge and Furniture Room (resale).
  • Book Nook - resale books and magazines.
  • Ceramics Shop for classes and shopping.
  • Game Room with full sized pool table.
  • Midway Oasis - greenhouse/flower shop.
  • The Corner Store for gifts/groceries/cards.

The Westerly Apartments

Providing convenient, affordable housing for older adults since 1963. Apartments available for adults age 62 and older. Affordable rents include utilities, appliances, and satellite television.
