a compendium of facts about Ohio history by Dan Chabek Barberton Became "Magic City"The town took its name from Ohio Columbus Barber, who bought approximately 1000 acres of land in the area with three business partners in 1890. Numerous manufacturing plants were located in Barberton early on. Most prominent was the Diamond Match Co., of which Barber was president.
