MEET THE AUTHOR: FALLING OUT AND BELONGING: A Foot-Soldier's Life By S. Joseph Krause
This gritty WWII novel details the stressful day-to-day experiences of six combat infantrymen as they go on attack after attack, enduring the unendurable. Shared loyalty and a jaundiced attitude towards the Army keep them going. Amid the constant fear there is comradeship and an unspoken sense of belonging. Despite the culture of caring, articulated by their chaplain, however, some fall out, unable to take it anymore. During World War II, the author served with the 4th Infantry Division during two of its bitterest campaigns. Thanks to the G.I. Bill of Rights, he earned a masters degree from Yale, a Ph.D. from Columbia University and Fulbright Professorships at the Universities of Copenhagen and Tübingen. This program is co-sponsored by the Columbia University Club of Cleveland.

Be a philosopher for a day! Engage in a Socratic dialogue with your fellow Library patrons. The second will ask, "What is unity?" We will seek to think collectively and discover what we have in common by exploring our experiences.
