Class size and the ratio of staff to children are carefully regulated to allow active involvement of children and provide adequate planning time for teachers. 

Teachers strive to use developmentally appropriate practices as they implement the curriculum.

Character development and spiritual growth are essential elements of the curriculum.

CALVARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT 

This self-supporting school, owned and operated by Calvary United Methodist Church of Lakewood, is designed to foster the development of intellectual, social, spiritual and physical growth. An organized and connected experience will be provided to each child based on his or her individual needs. Children will be encouraged to be problem solvers, original thinkers and to be inquisitive, sensitive, and creative individuals. This school will provide a variety of opportunities for parents and people in the community to come together to promote learning.

THE CLASSROOMS

Preschool
The Calvary Preschool was established in 1981. It operates Tuesday through Friday. Friday is the optional fourth day for those children who have had their fourth birthday on or before September 30th of the year of enrollment.  The classroom hours are:
  Morning session  8:50 – 11:10
  Afternoon session  12:50 – 3:10
The class size is usually 15 or 16 with 2 teachers. 

PreK – K – 1
The mixed age classroom for preK, kindergarten and 1st grade operates under a license from the Department of Education.  Kindergarten students may attend a half-day (mornings only) or a full day.  All first graders attend for the full day as required by law.
  Half day students  8:40 – 11:30
  Full day students  8:40 – 3:00
The class size this year will be 10 – 14 students.

Grades 1-3
The mixed age classroom for grades 1 – 3 operates under a license from the Department of Education.  The classroom hours are:
  All students  8:40 – 3:00

Calvary Community School’s calendar basically follows the calendar of the Lakewood City Schools.

Calvary Community School is licensed to operate by the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Human Services.
