Type of shingle What are the minimum requirements for shingles? The city requires a minimum of 235-pound asphalt or 220 pound fiberglass shingle.

Shingle vs. rolled roofing - Shingles can be used on roofs with a pitch of 3/12 or steeper. Less than 3/12 requires rolled roofing.
