A body of 58 people left a mainline denomination church because of doctrinal differences in July of 1973. After numerous meetings concerning the practicality of remaining an assembly, a board of five men was appointed to investigate all options. During August, after meeting as a church in cabins of public parks, they met in Lakewood Masonic Temple where they continued to congregate until purchasing their current location on Delaware Avenue in Lakewood. On September 23, 1973, the church voted to affiliate with the Assemblies of God.
