The idea behind this class is that learning how to get around the
Internet isn't hard—it's just unfamiliar. So let's jump in and get our
feet wet. We can learn the basic skills along the way while we

A word processor is more than just a typewriter with a TV attached to
it. It's a whole new approach to creating, saving and updating all
kinds of documents—from fliers to letters to manuscripts and more.
This isn't a typing class, but the skills you'll learn can serve you
well in every aspect of computer life.

Finding web pages with a search tool isn't really a problem, but how
do you narrow down thousands of results to find what you were looking
for in the first place? Get your hands dirty with the three different
kinds of online search tools and learn strategies for searching with
precision and speed.

SPREADSHEET BASICS—New Class!
This brief introduction to computer spreadsheets includes tips on
sorting data, automating calculations, and turning out spiffy-looking
charts and graphs. Hands-on instruction will include demonstrations of
both Microsoft Excel and free open source alternatives.

JOB HUNTING WORKSHOP [view course guide online]
Put the resources of the Learning Lab to work in the search for your
next job. Learn to navigate job listings, create an Internet-friendly
resume, and communicate effectively with employers. There will also be
plenty of time to actually look for a job online, with an instructor
on hand to answer your questions.
