Lakewood
Public Library
The recent adjustments in policy, along with the increases in fees, are necessary for us to not only sustain our current operation and extensive catalog, but to further enhance our growth and development as we move into the future. We sincerely appreciate the ongoing support from our patrons.
The Lakewood Public Library, along with the Madison Branch Library, is an independent system with its own unique Library card and policies. To make the best use of the Library’s resources, everyone is asked to sign up for their own card. Registration is free and open to every resident of the state of Ohio. The Library reserves the right to refuse service to anyone without identification and to restrict the privileges of anyone who accumulates an excessive amount of fines and overdue items.
No one is allowed to use another person’s card for any purpose under any circumstances, including checking out materials and using a computer.
Patrons are asked to notify the Library immediately when their card is lost or stolen, their PIN is compromised or they have changed their address or phone number.
Library cards are free and ready to use immediately. Applicants must present a valid and undamaged photo ID along with proof of current address. The signature of a parent or legal guardian is required for children ages 14 and under.
Damaged cards can be exchanged for free. However, there is a $2.00 charge for replacement of a lost card. To replace a lost card, patrons must present a valid and undamaged photo ID. All overdue items must be returned and all outstanding fees and fines must be paid in full.
Every Library card comes with a personal identification number, or PIN, that can be used to renew books, place holds and check the status of materials online. It can also be used for accessing time on a public computer in the Technology Center. Patrons who have forgotten or misplaced their PIN can retrieve it in person at any desk in the Library by presenting a valid and undamaged photo ID. PINs cannot be given out over the phone.
All circulating materials are available for a two-week loan period. For security purposes, patrons must present a Library card or a valid and undamaged photo ID when checking out. No one is permitted to check out materials on another person’s card. A total of 50 items may be checked out at any one time. See the Audio-Visual section for other limits.
Materials may be renewed up to five times, unless the item is on hold for another patron. Items can be renewed in person at any desk, by phone or using your online account. The phone number for 24-hour renewal is (216) 226-8275, ext. 150.
The overdue charge for most items is 10¢ a day. Late DVDs result in a fine of 50¢ a day. Borrowing privileges will be suspended and the patron’s Library card will be blocked when accumulated fines reach $10.00. After 60 days, any item that is still overdue will be billed to the patron. Library cards with billed items will also be blocked. A blocked card will not allow a patron access to the Technology Center and other services.
Fees will also be charged for damaged items. Lost or damaged VHS, DVD and CD cases will be result in a fine of $5.00. Lost or damaged audio book cases will result in a fine of $10.00.
Reserves may be placed on any circulating item. Patrons will be notified by mail or e-mail when their reserves become available. Requests may be placed in person, by phone, or on our Web Catalog. Reserved material that becomes available will be held for 10 days. If an item is not part of our collection, we will try to obtain it for you.
Patrons can search the Library’s collection, check the status of their accounts, personalize PINs, renew materials and place items on hold by visiting lkwdpl.org/myaccount and entering the ID number from the back of their Library card along with their PIN. Lakewood Public Library Catalog.
The Library’s extensive collection of DVDs, videocassettes, CDs and audio books is a treasure worth protecting. To browse the Audio-Visual Collection, patrons are required to drop off their Library card at the entrance. Patrons who have an account with the Library but do not have their card with them may instead leave a valid and undamaged photo ID. All accounts must be in good standing. Patrons with blocked cards are not permitted to enter the room. Children under the age of 7 may enter without a card when accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Library thanks everyone for their cooperation with this necessary safeguard. So that everyone may enjoy the collection, no more than 10 DVDs and 25 CDs may be checked out on a card at any one time. All other items are limited only by the total check out limit of 50 items. The overdue charge for all items is 10¢ a day, except DVDs which incur a charge of 50¢ a day. Please note that the Library's collection of graphic novels is also housed in the Audio-Visual section.
