While Lakewood Public Library has resources to assist patrons with their legal questions, the library may not have sufficient resources to effectively answer various patron requests. There are further options outside of the library. Some of these resources, particularly law libraries, are not authorized to offer legal advice, but will have more extensive legal collections.

Legal Aid Society of Cleveland

To qualify for assistance, individuals must be financially eligible and in a situation that can be handled by LSC. LSC typically handles matters relating to housing, consumer law, employment law, benefits, family law, criminal law, income tax law, and the elderly.

A comprehensive list of the Ohio State Legal Services Association's legal assistance programs. The list is searchable by program and county.

Cleveland Bar Association

The Cleveland Bar Association has a Lawyer Referral and Information Service to assist people with legal questions. People may be directed to a Cleveland service agency or a lawyer if necessary. The initial consultation with a lawyer is free of charge.

Ohio Public Defender

The Ohio Public Defender provides indigent defense services. There are links to County Public Defenders in Ohio.

Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association

This association is a private association for Prosecutors. The site has contact information for Ohio Prosecutors.

Ohio Bar Associations

This list of associations from FindLaw includes the Akron Bar Association, Cincinnati Bar Association, Columbus Bar Association, Dayton Bar Association, Lake County Bar Association, Toledo Bar Association, and other legal-related associations.

Ohio State Bar Association

The Ohio State Bar Association's Web site has a page devoted to public resources. This includes links to Ohio lawyer referral services, facts about commonly encountered legal issues, a general handbook on law, resources for small business owners, and more.

Ohio County and Law School Libraries

This Web page from the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries has links to Ohio's law school libraries and selected county law libraries. At least some of the resources in these libraries are generally open to the public, but a fee may be charged for services in some of the libraries.

Ohio Depository Libraries

The Government Documents Department at Bowling Green State University has compiled a comprehensive list of Depository Libraries in Ohio. These libraries include the State Library of Ohio, and mainly academic libraries, academic law libraries, and public libraries.

Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this service provides free and discounted legal services to individuals, families, and small business owners throughout the United States.
