Farris

Savannah Farris was born and raised in Lakewood, Ohio. She attended and graduated from Lakewood High School, class of 2001, but she has turned into art what many of us cherish about Lakewood, its wonderful diversity.

While still attending high school Savannah gained notoriety with her self portrait, shown above. Savannah Farris became a finalist for the Governors Art Show in 2001, not to mention, winning first place in the Seniors art show at Lakewood High School the very same year.

Savannah has been able to capture the beauty and diversity of Lakewood. These wonderful charcoal on paper drawings of six Lakewood houses have been on display at Lakewood City Hall. In her six house series Savannah Farris has been able to show how all financial classes can, as she says," find happiness in Lakewood."

The six house series was a project assigned to Savannah while studying at the Cleveland Institute of Art. The assignment was to create a series of artworks that can be viewed as a series, but when taken apart, be viewed as individual pieces of art. Each portrait can stand alone as one of Lakewood's many beautiful homes, but together the series shows an important aspect of Lakewood, Ohio. Ohio is one of the most diverse states in America and Lakewood alone is a sure example of how diverse our state is.

The first in the series of houses shows a lower-middle income house in Lakewood. Savannah tried to show the different classes of Lakewood while "trying to take equal steps between all the classes." It is not very large, but proud and beautiful, as all the homes in Lakewood are. As you continue to examine the other houses you can see them get bigger and more extravagant, until you reach the sixth house. The last house in the series is a beautiful lakefront home, a majestic mansion fit for a king. All of the houses in the series, though, show the diversity of our city.

We take pride in the fact that, as Lakewoodites, we can peacefully coexist in a diverse city. Lakewood brings together such a diverse population, and our houses show that. Savannah is a Lakewoodite with artistic talent and wonderful insight into her city, Lakewood.
