| Harrison
School -- 2080 Quail Street |
Located in the southeastern section of the city in the Birdtown area,
a few blocks from Madison Park, the
Harrison playground is small, with a few swings, slides and climbing
equipment,
all metal. These are located on the Dowd Street side of the school. The
Harrison building also serves as a community center, so it would
make sense
for some
updating
of this playground.

| Garfield
School -- 13114 Detroit Avenue |

Two sections of
modern playstations are separated by a large row of
swings. Each playstation offers a lot of climbing and platforms on different
levels, providing much scope for imagination.
|
| Taft
School -- 13701 Lake Avenue |
|
Located in a fairly
quiet residential section of Lake Avenue, the Taft playground features
the railroad-tie style of equipment, which can get a bit splintery.
As opposed to other school playgrounds, this one has two baby swings
amidst the big-kid swings, and a mini-amphitheatre
for your budding Bernhardts.
|
| Franklin
School -- 13465 Franklin Blvd. |
Located at a fairly central location on Franklin Boulevard and Lewis
Avenue, the Franklin playground has modern equipment, including
slides, swings and climbing apparatus. It's in a small space,
but it packs a lot of fun.
|
| Roosevelt
School -- 14237 Athens Avenue |
|
This playground features a wooden railroad-style structure with a slide,
wooden suspension bridge, and climbing sections. A half-circle
metal climbing apparatus and a bank of swings is nearby. It also
has a nice grassy area for toddlers to run around, and benches
and picnic tables close by. This playground almost always has children
playing in it -- a true testament to its fun factor!
In addition, ball fields are located behind Roosevelt School, on Bayes
Avenue.
|
| Grant
School -- 1470 Victoria Avenue |
|
Located behind
the Lakewood City Center and accessible from Victoria or Elmwood
Avenues,
the Grant playground has fairly new swings, slides
and modern climbing equipment. A dolphin sculpture dates back to when
the school was newly opened in 1969.
|
| Madison
School -- 16601 Madison Avenue |
|
Madison Elementary
School and Harding Middle School are situated back-to-back, so there's
a larger variety of recreational facilities located close together.
The playground's equipment is fairly new -- some being metal and some
in the railroad tie-style --featuring a variety of swings, slides
and climbing areas.
In addition, there are basketball courts at the corner of Madison and
Woodward, and
Harding's softball field is a major site for the city recreational
leagues.
|
| Hayes
School -- 16401 Delaware Avenue |
The Hayes playground
is at the east end of the campus, at the top of Olive Avenue. Nicely
shaded and newly renovated, this playground has lots of fun equipment.
Among this wide expanse of space are swings, slides, climbing
areas, jungle gyms, fortress structures, and tire obstacle
courses. The triple slide is a BIG hit! Also included are benches
and handicapped-accessible picnic tables.
|
| Lincoln
School -- 15615 Clifton Boulevard |
|
The school grounds
stretch the block between Summit and Lakeland Avenues, and the playground
equipment
is right on Clifton. Parent volunteers installed new
equipment not too long ago, including a "log-roll," wooden suspension bridge,
double racing slide, and climbing areas. There
are two baby swings amongst the big-kid swings, a tire swing, and benches
provided by the PTA.
This is truly a destination
playground.
