Jimmie Foxx
A Great Community for a Great Baseball Player

Jimmy Foxx, an astute baseball hitter with a keen eye for the strike zone, also had excellent vision for choosing a good community. considered by many as one of the greatest power hitters in baseball history, Jimmie picked Lakewood as the city to make his home and raise a family.

"Double X" or "The Beast" as he was sometimes called, was voted the American League's most Valuable Player three times, and hit 58 homeruns in 1932. He won the rare Triple Crown Award in 1933 and, at the time of this Park's dedication, was 10th on the alltime homerun list with 534 round trippers. he played for the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics, appearing in three World Series. His lifetime slugging average was an incredible 609!

In 1951, at the age of 43, he received Baseball's greatest honor when he was elected into the Hall of Fame.

He died in 1967.
