ChochimE

THE REGION AND TRIBE FROM WHICH MY REGALIA CAME FROM

My regalia is from the San Ildefonso Pueblo, and the tribe that lived there
is call Chochimi. This is where some of the most beautiful pottery came from and
still does.

The women there wear the classic dress called the manta. They also wear
necklaces made of turquoise, coral and silver bracelets. On there feet they wear
high hard soled moccasins

This tribe of Native Americans lived mostly in Arizona, New Mexico, parts of
Texas and in Utah. This was the Southwest region of the United States.

I will tell you about one of the dances of this region. That specific dance is
called the Santa Clara Corn Dance .There are two dancers that go to a specific
Plaza, one dancer is a man and the other dancer is a woman.

In this special dance the woman wears a manta. The manta that the
women from the Chochime Tribe wear is a little bit like mine, only hers is woven
of wool and cotton.

She wears a specific headdress made of eagle feathers. Her regalia is like
mine because I too have turquoise and coral necklaces and silver bracelets.

This is the history of where my regalia came from.
