V.I.K. Foundation
(Very Involved Kids)

The V.I.K. Foundation is a student-created, student-run foundation dedicated to supporting the arts in elementary classrooms of Lakewood,
Ohio.

Named after Viktor Schreckengost, an industrial designer, ceramist, and former teacher at the Cleveland Institute of Art, the V.I.K. Foundation was organized in 2005. Jazz BowlThe initial $1,000 donation to the foundation came from the profits from the sale of cards designed by second and third graders at Grant Elementary in Lakewood, Ohio, in the style of Vik’s famous piece titled Jazz Bowl.

Individual grants of $25.00 are awarded to elementary teachers in the city of Lakewood, Ohio for the advancement of the arts.

Grants may include:
* art materials not covered regular classroom supplies
* admission to art related programs
* transportation to art related field trips
* Cleveland Museum of Art “Art to Go” classes
* art related assemblies

V.I.K. grant proposal forms may be picked up at Grant Elementary in Lakewood, Ohio during regular school hours or printed from this web site. Grants proposals are accepted from September to March and are reviewed at the monthly V.I.K. Foundation meetings. Eight grants will be awarded each school year.

V.I.K. is umbrellaed under the Schreckengost Foundation to defray expenses of incorporating a separate foundation.

* share Viktor Schreckengost’s artistic legacy with fellow students
* promote service learning as students create and run a mini foundation
* enhance integration of the arts into curriculum
* fund grants to educators for arts related projects
* develop plans for future fund raising efforts

* Lakewood Chamber of Commerce invites children to share highlights of
the program at a breakfast meeting

* Grant Elementary features Vik Schreckengost in their school-wide arts
initiative
* School Arts Magazine features Grant Elementary’s Schreckengost based curriculum

   

First grade teacher Mrs. Kim Miles is the first recipient of a grant from the V.I.K. Foundation for her project titled, "First Grade Quilts - A Wrap Up of Our Year."


She plans to use the award to purchase fabric and oil crayons to be used in a multi-grade level project incorporating history, math, social studies, and art.
