MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

It's hard to believe that this school year is drawing to a close. may and June are very busy months in which we celebrate and recognize the many accomplishments of our students and staff. This will be a very special ending due to the closing of our school

As we prepare to end our stay here at Taft and move to our new building at Emerson next year, we invite the entire Taft community to join us in our closing celebration on Wednesday, May 28 from 6:30 - 8:00. School officials, Board of Education members and civic leaders will join us in the decommissioning of our building. Speeches will be made, our choir will sing, and the entire building will be open for a final tour. Current and past families and staff are invited. Please plan to attend!

We will be taking an all school picture on May 7 to capture the final students attending Taft Elementary. These pictures will be for sale. Order forms will be sent home Friday, May 2.

A Chalktalk will be sent home with our students in June to alert you to opening of school items.

Please continue to check our website at www.lakewoodcityschools.org to check on the most current information. Click on Taft Elementary and then on Newsletters for the current Chalktalk.

DISTRICT MESSAGE

First we would like to thank you for your participation this school year from helping students with homework and encouraging study, to volunteering and helping at school. Educating our students truly is a partnership! We’ve had a great school year! As we wind up the year, we encourage you to utilize our award-winning Lakewood Public Library to keep children reading during the summer; our parks offer opportunities to explore nature, and our Community Recreation and Education Department offers many activities for the whole family. We will be working hard this summer, preparing for the next school year when we open two more new schools, Emerson and Horace Mann Elementary Schools. We look forward to new challenges and new opportunities in the year ahead! Have a safe and happy summer!

All school Picnic Lunch
On May 23, our track and field day, all students will be treated to an outdoor picnic lunch during their lunch period. We will have hotdogs, chips, cookies and a drink. Students will not need to pay for this lunch on that day. It’s on us! We will not have the normal lunch menu on that day. If your child does not want a hotdog on that day, he/she will need to pack a lunch. We ask that students bring a towel or blanket to sit on. If it rains, (which of course it won’t!) we will have an indoor picnic.

As we move into the warmer weather, we need to revisit our dress code:
