Last Day of School, June 11
10:45 5th Grade Graduation

  • All students will bring home a report card envelope on June 11. Please look for the following:
Report card (if fees are paid)
Preliminary Taft School Calendar for the 2008-2009 school year
Supply lists for the 2008-2009 school year
  • A fee bill has been sent to those with unpaid fees. If your child has unpaid school or library fees, instructions on how to obtain report cards after our office closes on June 19 will be listed on the fee bill.
  • The first day of school next year is Wednesday, August 27. Please plan to stay and join us for coffee on the first day of school!
  • At this time, we are projected to open on time at Emerson on August 27. Be sure to check our website for updated information on the opening of school. A letter will also be sent home in early August with information about class assignments and opening day.

The entire Taft staff wishes you and your family a relaxing and renewing summer.

STUDENT MEDICATION AT SCHOOL
If your child has taken medication at school, you will need to pick it up by the end of school on June 11th. Any leftover medication will be disposed of after that date. If you need to make special arrangements to pick up medication, please contact the office. You may pick a medication form for next school year at this time.

SUMMER READING REQUIREMENT FOR 6TH GRADERS
Reading is an enjoyable and educational experience that can easily be treasured over the summer months. Once again this summer, all incoming sixth grade students have a required reading assignment. Students should read two books over the summer and complete a journal writing activity and/or participate in a book discussion at the Lakewood Public Library.
These summer assignments are due when school starts in the fall and will count towards students’ first quarter language arts grades. Fifth grade language arts teachers will provide students and parents with further information about this assignment in June. Additional details about these assignments can be accessed on the Harding Middle School and Garfield Middle School websites.

Please continue to check our website at www.lakewoodcityschools.org to check on the most current information. Click on Taft Elementary and then on Newsletters for the current Chalktalk.
