School To Apprenticeship Program

School To Apprenticeship Program

The School-to-Apprenticeship Program is designed to bridge the gap between the local school district and apprenticeship in the industry-labor complex. This program is a cooperative venture between the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, Ohio Department of Education, Division of Career-Technical Education, and the West Shore Vocation Educational District.

The purpose is to effectively utilize the existing Career-Technical Education systems to assist the students in making the transition from school to apprenticeship, thus creating an orderly transition from the learning environment to an apprenticeship program.

Placement will be accomplished with the assistance of the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, Ohio Department of Education, and the local school district, and will utilize placement opportunities with craft unions, public and private commerce, and individual employers.

The goal of the program is to provide a continuity of education and work experience for students in Career-Technical education. These students would be enrolled in registered apprenticeship programs through the involvement with employers having registered programs. Also, this would provide a simple method of delivery of students who wish to participate in this type of work experience. The student will earn credit toward apprentice with the participating employer shall be the desired result upon graduation of the student.

To qualify for the apprenticeship program, students must be all day seniors in a yearlong program. Any student selected must have passed all parts of the Ohio Proficiency Test, unless exempted by the Ohio State Department of Education.
