Student Handbook

Dress Code

The purpose of school uniforms is to encourage pride in personal appearance in the school, and to eliminate peer pressure, self-consciousness, or elitism. Students should be in FULL uniform prior to entering the building i.e. ties on, shirt tucked in, etc. and always depart the building in full uniform.

GIRLS:
Grades K – 4
Black & green Watch Plaid Jumper
Grades 5 – 8
Black & green Watch Plaid Split Skirt, or Kilt Skirt (MUST BE KNEE LENGTH) V-neck button down vest in solid navy or red.
Blouse
White or pale yellow w/Peter Pan, girls tailored, or girls button down collar. A solid white t-shirt may be worn underneath.
Tie
Required for grades 4-8; optional for grades K-3.
Socks
White or navy crew, bobby, or knee-highs. Solid navy tights may be worn in cold weather. NO ankle sport socks. The tops of socks must be visible above the shoe.
Shoes
Practical, simple dress shoes w/rubber soles with either laces or Velcro. Heels not to exceed 1 ½ inches. No open shoes or tennis shoes permitted.
Hair
Neat and styled simple. No extreme hair styles. Scrunchies in solid navy or white only and must remain in hair. Refrain from hair fashion trends, NO hair dyes or highlighting. Administration makes final determination on propriety
Jewelry
Small pierced “stud” or small hoop earrings. No dangling earrings permitted. (Only one pair of earrings may be worn) One necklace with either a Crucifix or Religious Medallion. No chokers, rings, or bracelets.
Make-Up
NOT ACCEPTABLE at all, including colored nail polish, acrylic nails or lip gloss.
Sweaters
Solid navy crew neck, cardigan or V-neck sweater, or SS C&M navy sweatshirt. Sweaters are recommended in cold weather. No hoods or zippers.
COLD WEATHER
Girls may wear their gym shorts underneath their jumper or kilt in cold weather. Navy blue tights are recommended for added warmth.
BOYS
Grades K – 8
Navy blue or black dress trousers or corduroys. NO outside leg pockets or gathering around ankles. Black, navy, or brown belts. Belts must be worn in Grades 4 – 8.
Grades 1 – 4
Solid yellow, white, or light blue polo shirt with collar. Must be tucked in, not rolled up
Grades 5 – 8
Solid yellow, white, or light blue dress shirt, tucked in with solid navy tie. A solid white t-shirt may be worn underneath.
Socks
Navy or white crew or tube socks. NO ankle sport socks. The tops of socks must be visible above the shoe.
Tie
Solid navy only. Must cover top of button on shirts and may not be removed during school hours. Clip on ties are recommended.
Shoes
Basic black or brown dress shoes w/laces or Velcro. NO tennis shoes or construction boots.
Hair
Clean, short, neatly styled. No wild or extreme styles (ridges, shaven designs). Must be clean shaven. No after shave or cologne. NO hair dyes or highlighting. Administration makes final determination on propriety.
Jewelry
Simple watch. No built in calculators, recording devices, or sound effects. No earrings.
Sweaters
Solid navy crew neck, cardigan, V-neck, or SS. C&M sweatshirt. Sweaters are recommended in cold weather. No hoods or zippers.
HOT WEATHER
Navy walking dress shorts only during: (No cargos, no pockets on side legs)April 15th - June and August - October 15th.
ALL STUDENTS:
Gym Uniform
Shorts – SS C&M or solid navy shorts or wind pants. No stripes.
Tops – Navy SS C&M T-shirt (to be purchased through school ordering) or solid navy t-shirts.Bottoms – Navy shorts or sweat pants. No stripes or logos. Tennis shoes with socks. NO ANKLE SPORT SOCKS. The tops of socks must be visible above the shoe.

Dress Code Policy Statement

The school, parents/guardians, students, and staff play an important role in making the Dress Code be a part of school life. Once again, SS Cyril & Methodius stresses the importance of adhering to the uniform dress code.

Students should be in FULL uniform prior to entering and departing the building (i.e. ties on, shirts tucked in; not rolled up, etc.) Students clothing should be clean, neat, and sized appropriately at all times. The hems in skirts must be sewn.

Students need to dress appropriately for cold weather. This includes a warm coat, gloves, hat, scarf, etc. Any student not properly dressed for cold weather must stay inside during morning and lunch recess. On snowy days, students must wear boots and bring their school shoes.

Appropriate all weather book bags; if book bag has wheels, student must carry book bag in school.
NO KEY CHAINS OR ACCESSORIES ARE TO BE HANGING FROM BAGS.

When a child is not in compliance with the school Dress Code the following procedures will be followed by the school staff:

Consequences:

Grades K- 5 Students will have to flip their card.
Grades 6 – 8 Students will receive a demerit.

SS C&M keeps individual student records for:

• Dress Code offenses
• Behavior problems
• Attitude problems

SS CYRIL & METHODIUS IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST UNIFORMS OR OTHER ITEMS.

For the student’s safety: Backpacks, coats, sweater, sweatshirts, flannel shirts/jackets, jackets, hats, scarves, or any other type of clothing depicting designer labels, professional or collegiate athletic teams’ logos are not permitted on school grounds.
