Lakewood
Catholic Academy - 2007 Summer Reading List - Grade 3 |
Dear Parents and Incoming Third Graders,
Lakewood Catholic Academy’s Third Grade teachers will initiate a Summer Reading Olympics. This exciting event has four (4) objectives:
This event presents an easy way to develop a love of reading and its rewards during the summer months. You can use this reading list or you may want to check the libraries list for the best choices for your child. Each student has a chance to earn an Olympic medal for the number of books that he/she is able to read throughout the summer.
A Bronze Medal = 5 books read
A Silver Medal = 10 books read
A Gold Medal = 15 books read
All you have to do is READ! READ! READ! This is a great opportunity to improve reading skills and even discover that reading is your favorite thing to do, if it isn't already! Just think of all the characters that you will meet and the places that you will explore! There is so much out there in the world of reading!
Are you ready for the adventure? Well OK! Here is what you have to do.
Students, please fill out
the "My Reading Goals" sheet with your parents. Post these goals where
you can see them every day to remind yourself of what you want to accomplish
during the Summer Reading Olympics. Included on this page is a Reading Log.
This is to be used to keep track pf how much you are reading. Every time you
complete a book, enter it in the Reading Log. Be sure that your parent(s) write
their initials and the date at the end of each entry. (Parents, please be sure
that your child is reading books at or above their reading level.) We encourage
you to read chapter books. This event is about reading for fun, not reading
to see who can read the most books. Your Reading Log(s) will be collected on
the first day of school, August 22, 2007; Reading Logs will not be accepted
after that date.
Now get ready to exercise those reading skills! On your mark! Get set! GO FOR
THE GOLD!!!!!

Summer Doings
Some at beaches
are sand-castling;
Some are silly--
Fighting, rasseling!
Some are swimming;
camping, hiking;
Some say stick-ball
is their liking.
Some on bikes are gaily speeding;
Some are smarter---SUMMER READING!
