Rachel Carson
Rachel was born in 1907. She was a biologist and writer. Her scientific accuracy and complete thoroughness made her novel, Silent Spring (1962) a powerful warning of the growing danger of unrestricted use of chemical pesticides and herbicides. Rachel is often credited with being the founder of the environmental movement. She died of cancer in 1964.
